Ninth Finland Trip Concludes Five-Year Procopé & Hornborg Cooperation
The ninth client development trip October 31 through November 15 was a huge success! The Villamar Firm also ended its almost five year cooperation with Procopé & Hornborg on good terms. The trip included a visit to JAMK University and to lecture on innovation including Intellectual Property Rights Protection: The Ever-changing Landscape. Mr. Villamar also attended the Slush start up event hosted by the Aalto University Entrepreneurial Society with hundreds of the world’s top start ups in attendance. Many more new Finnish start ups, universities and incubators are now on the horizon and with further trips to other technical hubs in Finland planned for the near future.

Eighth Finland Trip and Polar Bear Pitching 2015 in Oulu
The eighth client development trip February 22nd through March 1st as part of the cooperation between The Villamar Firm and Procopé & Hornborg was a huge success! The trip included visits and lectures at University of Oulu and the university entrepreneurship hub, Business Kitchen , on innovation including Intellectual Property Rights Protection & Related Topics. Mr. Villamar trained for and attended the Polar Bear Pitching 2015 event in Oulu on February 25th and you can see him get in the ice hole at 48:00. Mr. Villamar also is working with start ups on a start up idea, OU812 , to try to get the venture capitalists in the ice hole in 2016. As part of the Polar Bear training, Mr. Villamar participated in the 2015 Maryland Polar Bear Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics and went in the cold Chesapeake Bay water seven times, one for each donation.

In view of the America Invents Act provisions coming into effect on March 16, 2013, including the US going to a first to file patent system, along with other “pay to play” provisions that favor large companies, Mr. Villamar launched OU812 . The mission of Ou812 is to team up startups, small inventors, and universities around the world to mitigate the disadvantageous effects of the AIA.

Mr. Villamar returned from his trip to Finland and is in process of establishing an Office in Helsinki as based on a cooperation with one of the oldest, most prestigious law firms in Finland. Mr. Villamar’s duties will include developing Global Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) strategies with emphasis on the United States for the Finnish firm’s high tech start ups and clients. In addition, both Mr. Villamar and Dr. Villamar have been invited to work as lecturers at JAMK University for respective courses in the areas of IPR and International Business Law.
